The first time she appeared on screen was in an advertisement for McDonald's that also starred John Goodman. In 1986 she made her TV debut on The Ellen Burstyn Show. She subsequently guest starred in sitcoms including Seinfeld Frasier Wings Ned and Stacey Mad About You Caroline in the City 3rd Rock from the Sun as well as Just Shoot Me!. She played the main character in an episode from season five of Murder She Wrote, Coal Miner's Murder. She said in 2012 that she was going through state of panic because I'd not had a job for a long time. So I get a call one day from my agent that I had been offered a guest role that would pay $5,000.
